Another small one, Misty Day 9x12. This piece is in acrylics with many transparent layers on top of the base palette knife painting. The focus of this piece was to get soft greens that were not too hard and build up the light in layers. Please click on the image for a larger view.

And the sky - w/ both warm and cool happening at the same time... Is that thin trasparent layers with canvas illuminating it, or is it thick under there too?
I put down some very thick paint with the knife in the sky. It was more of a ochre/white combo with a touch of raw sienna. You can see it peaking through on the finished piece. It was too warm so I did a couple layers of glazing to get that misty glow going. I wanted to get to a soft greenish cast to harmonize the sky with the rest of the green scape so I did a glaze of yellow and transparent white. Then on top of that was a second pass with transparent white and blue (a cerulean type blue). The blue was knocked way back with the white and painted very transparent. So on top of the first yellow glaze it made the blue yellow combo creating the soft green. It still has the good texture because of the base painting.
I love those layers too Jill. I think I will do some more these. The disappearing bushes and trees in the back ground are calling me to come back in.
This painting has a great interplay of warm and cool. Very intriguing sense of atmosphere! I look forward to seeing more of your paintings!
