Plein air, LARGE!

Summer Light 24x36.

My large plein air set up out at Sauvie Island, Oregon.

Went out with my new BIG easel for some large outside painting.
Worked all afternoon on this one and added final highlights and field flowers after it dried.

Going back out for another large one soon.

Its beautiful. I love your edges, so soft and inviting. Such a big canvas on location is a huge challenge with changing light. You succeeded marvelously...

Thanks Susan. Seems like if I just work on blocking in the larger shapes I can get through a large canvas in the field fairly quickly. Even going fast, the light changed a fair amount from when I started.

Wow, Don, you are brave to work that large! ...the wind, the changing light, the heat, the time to complete, lets see..what else...?
Anyway, beautifully done!

Thanks Celeste,
It is out at Hood RIver so you can see it in person if you haven't already. I am going to do some more before the summer ends.

You have really created a really beautiful and a bit mystical place in this painting. Love the mix of textures as well. Hmm... might have to come steal this one. :) It's really fabulous.

Thanks Cobalt,
Glad you noticed the textures. I used a knife for those and to really force myself not to over work that part. Seems like we put it in and then a lot times we loose it by going too far!
